11th Generation New Mexican says “hardworking people of New Mexico are sick of having their rights and freedoms stolen”

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, JAN. 8, 2021 – Eddy Aragon, owner and host of Albuquerque radio station KIVA and known as “The Rock of Talk” (ABQ.FM / 1600 AM /, today announced that he will be a candidate in the special election for New Mexico’s first congressional district, once the U.S. Senate confirms U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior.

“This week’s events prove that we need a fresh start in American politics,” Aragon said in announcing his candidacy. “The hardworking people of New Mexico are sick of having their rights and their freedoms stolen by uncaring, hypocritical elected officials, and tired of being lied to by cynical media elites and party favorites. We, the people, need to take back our government by electing fellow citizens who truly care about us and will work for us.”

Over six years of hosting 15-plus hours of live radio each week, Aragon – an 11th generation New Mexican with two degrees in political science and economics from the University of New Mexico – has become the trusted voice to lead New Mexico’s public discussions. He worked on Capitol Hill for U.S. Rep. Jeff Bingaman and worked on campaigns for Tom Udall and Raymond Sanchez. He also organized several states for 2004 presidential candidate General Wesley Clark.

“People know me as a conservative,” Aragon said, “but as a former Democrat, I understand people’s opinions across the spectrum. Whether you identify as a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Independent, we all want the same thing: elected officials who care about the working families of this country, and who will help us improve our own lives, instead of empowering and enriching themselves. New Mexicans know I care about them. And if they trust me to represent them in Congress as they have trusted me to lead public policy discussions, the first bill I will introduce will be to limit members of Congress to no more than four terms.”

Aragon has been recognized for broadcast excellence by the Albuquerque Journal in its annual Readers’ Choice Award for the past four consecutive years (2017-2020). He is a regular contributor to New Mexico In Focus, CNN, Fox News, The Sean Hannity Show, and several other national conservative talk shows. For 13 years prior to his career in media, he successfully worked in commercial real estate in Albuquerque, Phoenix and Las Vegas, Nevada.
