ARAGON DEMANDS WITHDRAWAL OF ANOTHER CANDIDATE
WHO IS MARRIED TO A REPUBLICAN PARTY OFFICER
ALBUQUERQUE, NM, MARCH 9, 2021 – Eddy Aragon, candidate for New Mexico’s first congressional district, today said the New Mexico Republican Party is “playing favorites and making sweetheart deals” by allowing a second primary candidate to run who is married to a party officer.
“Michaela Chavez is an unfairly advantaged candidate because she has access through her husband, Republican Party Treasurer David Chavez, to GOP state central committee members and information that other candidates do not,” Aragon said. “She should withdraw her candidacy, just as Peggy Muller-Aragon did.”
Albuquerque Public Schools board member Peggy Muller-Aragon (no relation), who is married to GOP 1st Vice Chairman, Robert Aragon, withdrew her candidacy the day after Eddy Aragon made the same charge against her candidacy. Eddy Aragon applauded Muller-Aragon’s decision to withdraw, and praised her service to Albuquerque’s school system.
“It’s become a full-time job to point out the corruption of the Republican Party’s handling of this election,” Aragon said. “We need a clean primary, followed immediately by new party leadership.”
